Post-holidays and a trip to Nicaragua

Things have settled back into a routine since school started again. We took Graham out to dinner at Kianti's (not an Italian restaurant - go figure) for his birthday and had a lovely evening out, then Claire started school the next day.

For the first time Claire has after-school activities - AIS offers ballet and gymnastics for preschool through kindergarten, so she started ballet Tuesday and gymnastics Wednesday. She's the youngest in both classes (no other preschoolers signed up) and so far she really enjoys both. I've been meaning to get her into gymnastics classes for a long time, and still hope to do that soon (at an actual gym).

Yesterday Graham left for Nicaragua on a mission trip with our church in Kansas City. He'll be working in the village of Jiñocuao in the mountains (staying overnight in the town of Somotillo) working with a temporary medical clinic. He'll be assisting the translators and speaking with the locals in Spanish (great practice for him!) and will also teach a class (in Spanish!) on the use of the medical kits they're taking, including ibuprofen, vitamins, toothbrush/toothpaste, and soap (things we all take for granted every day). I think by the end of the week he will have done the class about 30 times so should be a pro. One of the team members will be updating a blog as possible from Nicaragua if you want to follow along. Graham made it to Managua yesterday after a long bus ride, a three-hour border crossing, and three Martin Lawrence movies (in Spanish). He sounded good but never wants to see another Martin Lawrence movie if he can help it. =)

Tonight, Grandma Dede arrives from the U.S. to stay with us for a month and work on her Spanish. Claire is beyond excited and can't wait to show her around. Good distraction for her with Daddy away.

Nothing new to report on the baby - all is healthy, and no, we haven't chosen a name for him yet (not that we're telling when we do). Our next doctor's appointment is this week so there may be more news soon.

Nuestro horario regresó a normal cuando la escuela de Claire comenzó otra vez. Para su cumpleaños, tomamos Graham a Kianti’s para cenar, y Claire comenzó la escuela próximo día.

Por primera vez, Claire tiene actividades después de la escuela – AIS ofrece el ballet y la gimnasia para los chiquititos, y ella ya tiene el ballet el martes y la gimnasia el miércoles. Ella esta la mas joven en ambos clases (porque no otras niños de prescolar han asistido) y disfrute las dos. Quiero asistirla en clases de gimnasia en un gimnasio actual – espero que pronto.

Ayer Graham se fue para Nicaragua para un viaje de misión con nuestra iglesia de Kansas City. Él va a trabajar en el pueblo que se llama Jiñocuao en las montanas (va a quedarse cada noche en el pueblo que se llama Somotillo) y va a ayudar con un clínico medical temporario. Él va a hablar español con los ciudadanos del pueblo (¡que buena practica!) y va a enseñar una clase sobre el uso de los paquetes de salud, con el ibuprofeno, las vitaminas, un cepillo de dientes y pasta de dientes, y jabón (cosas que nos aprovechamos cada día). Creo que él va a enseñarla 30 veces por el fin de la semana. Un miembro del equipo de misión va a escribir un blog si es posible, si quiere leerlo. Graham llegó a Managua anoche después de un viaje por bus muy largo, un cruce de la frontera que duro tres horas, y tres películas de Martin Lawrence (en español). Él sonó bien pero nunca quiere ver otra película de Martin Lawrence si es posible. =)

Esta noche, Abuelita Dede va a llegar de los Estados Unidos para quedarnos por un mes. Ella quiere aprender más español cuando está aquí. Claire esta súper emocionada y no vea la hora de mostrarla cosas. Es una buena distracción cuando papi no está aquí.

No hay nada nuevo para decir sobre el bebé – todo está saludable, y no, no hemos elegido un nombre todavía (no vamos a compartir cuando lo tenemos, de todos modos). Nuestra próxima cita es esta semana, entonces posiblemente va a haber más noticias muy pronto.
